Ladies & Gentlemen,
We recently granted a three day time extension to one Council for the return of Grassroots Trustee nominations. In order for the process to remain equitable, we are offering the same extension to everyone. This means that the nominations must be returned by Monday, June 6, 2011.
I hope to hear from you soon.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
This email serves to offer you the opportunity to nominate a worthy individual for selection to the Trout Unlimited Board of Trustees. One of TU’s inherent strengths is its grassroots nature. In order to ensure that characteristic permeates the organization, almost one third of the BOT members are Grassroots Trustees who are selected from the ranks of our grassroots members.
Three of our sitting Grassroots Trustees will leave the BOT in 2011 due to term limits. To replace the outgoing GT’s we have chosen to cast the widest possible net and send the enclosed nominating materials to all Chapters in addition to all Councils. Each Council is entitled to nominate one individual for consideration. It follows then that Chapters should submit their nominations to their respective Council, who in turn will select the Council’s nominee. The Councils should forward the nominee and supporting information to the undersigned by no later than June 3, 2011. The NLC Nominating Committee will then select a slate to be submitted to the NLC for a vote.
It is important that the nominating Council provide the kind of information that will allow the Nominating Committee to evaluate nominees. This should include the information on the member nomination form, references, vita/resume, and the candidate’s vision of how they would participate on the BOT as examples.
Listed below is information from the bylaws relating to Grassroots Trustees:
Section 3. Grassroots Trustees. Two of the Grassroots Trustee positions
shall be filled by the Chair and Secretary of the NLC. The other eight
Grassroots Trustees shall be nominated by the NLC and elected by the
membership at the Annual Meeting of the members.
A. Qualifications. To be eligible to serve as a Grassroots Trustee, a
candidate must be a TU member in good standing, must have demonstrated expertise in matters of organizational development, advocacy, budget, finance, risk management, development, or national policy relevant to the goals of the Corporation, or such other expertise or skills relevant to the goals of the Corporation deemed necessary or appropriate by the NLC. Other than the Chair and Secretary of the NLC, no person may simultaneously serve as an NLC Representative and as a Grassroots Trustee.
B. Nomination. Nominees for Grassroots Trustees may be submitted to the NLC by state councils according to procedures developed by each council. In states without councils, nominees may be submitted by individual chapters. No state council or other state or geographic area with NLC representation shall submit more than one nominee at a time to the NLC. Each state Nominee submitted to the NLC shall be referred to the Nominating Committee of the NLC. The Nominating Committee of the NLC shall then narrow the number of nominees to the number needed to fill the available openings. The NLC shall then vote on the slate of nominees submitted by the NLC Nominating Committee or choose another slate of nominees, including candidates nominated at the
NLC meeting, and forward the slate of nominees approved by the NLC to be submitted for election by the membership of the Corporation at the Annual Meeting of the Corporation. Additional nominees satisfying the
qualifications set forth above may be put forth at the Annual Meeting by any member. The BOT Grassroots Member Nomination Form and the Grassroots Trustee Job Description are attached. This is a special opportunity; please give it your full attention.
Thanks.
